Just released on January 13, 2011, a potential 13th zodiac sign may be introduced according to astronomer from Minnesota, Parke Kunkle, who studies the earth’s positioning in its orbit and orientation with the sun. For over 3000 years, those who study astrology have practiced with the idea that there are 12 zodiac signs which correspond to 12 different periods during the year. Because of a change in the earth’s orientation in its orbit, the planets are realigned, necessitating the addition of the 13th sign.
What is Ophiucus?
Ophiucus is an astrological sign sometimes referred to as the 13th sign. Also known as the Serpentarius sign, the 13th sign has been known to exist for quite some time, but has not been recognized as a true sign of the zodiac. With new scientific discoveries of the earth’s current positioning, it remains to be seen whether those that practice astrology will accept the sign into its current group of twelve.
Which sign of the Zodiac?
The new sign, Ophiucus, will fall between Scorpio and Sagittarius. All of the date ranges for the original zodiac time periods will also readjust to compensate for the new earth alignment position. In order to figure out which sign now corresponds to a particular birth date if the changes become accepted by the astrologic community, check for the birth date in the new ranges. For most, subtracting back one sign will bring the user to their new zodiac location.
